A Quick Guide to Hermann Park
Anyone who’s heard of Hermann Park knows that it’s a pretty special place. There’s so much to do for all ages – so much, in fact, that you might not be aware of it all! Check out this quick guide to Hermann Park before your next visit.
Houston Zoo
Located in the heart of Houston, Hermann Park attracts roughly six million visitors each year. Many people head there for a day with the family at the famous Houston Zoo. With dozens of animals like chimpanzees, Asian elephants, jaguars, sea turtles, lions, and more, it’s got something for everyone.
Hermann Park Golf Course
One of Houston’s oldest and most popular golf courses, the Hermann Park Golf Course was built in 1922 and redesigned in 1997. It features a clubhouse for relaxation, dining, and shopping, and the Pro Shop is equipped with a variety of golf accessories even experts will love. The Hermann Park Golf Course is open every day of the week and offers the only driving range located inside the 610 Loop. It’s a great place to go to practice your swing!
Japanese Garden
The Japanese Garden at Hermann Park transports guests to a new land, one filled with waterfalls, bridges, and stone paths that wind among the peaceful beauty of Japanese maples and cherry trees. Designed by celebrated landscape architect, Ken Nakajima, Hermann Park’s Japanese Garden is free and open daily. From the teahouse to the lush gardens teeming with natural beauty, the Japanese Garden seeks to create a feeling of serenity among its guests.
McGovern Centennial Gardens
To commemorate Hermann Park’s centennial in 2014, Hermann Park Conservancy transformed the Houston Garden Center into a breathtaking custom eight-acre garden. Visitors can check out a variety of themed gardens like the Arid Garden, the Woodland Garden, and the Family Garden, which produces seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
Miller Outdoor Theatre
No stuffy indoor performances here! Enjoy an entertaining night of live music, dance, or theater in the fresh air. Miller Outdoor Theater has regular performances, but be sure to check out their schedule to plan ahead. Did I mention that the shows are free?
McGovern Lake
This is a beautiful place to go to relax and watch the birds, go fishing, or take a pedal boat ride (boats are available to rent at Lake Plaza). It’s not lacking for space, either. McGovern Lake consists of eight acres including three islands. It’s a wonderful place to go to relax among nature.
These are just a handful of things you can do at Hermann Park. Check out Hermann Park’s official website for more adventurous options.
