Are Utilities Included In The Rent
So, you are shopping for a new apartment in Houston, Texas, and you have questions. You want to know are utilities included in the rent? You have made your list and you are on your way to check places out. There is no need for you to ask the same questions over and over again. Many communities will have the same answers. I have put together a list of the most common questions that renters in Houston ask when touring new properties.
Is Parking Included?
It sure is! In Houston, Texas, parking at apartment communities is included in the rent. Renters are issued a parking permit to access the property, and can park on a first come first serve basis. If you really require your own reserved parking space, these can be rented for a fee.
Are Utilities Included?
No. Communities in Houston, Texas sub-meter each unit; so, residents are responsible for payment of their own utility usage. Residents are responsible for turning on their electric service, and providers can be compared at www.PowertoChoose.org. The community will turn on water, and send residents a bill towards the end of each month.
Will I Be Charged For Trash?
Valet Trash can be found at 90% of communities in Houston. It is a program where trash is collected door to door five nights a week. The program is not optional and costs between $25 and $35 monthly.
Are Pets Welcome?
Most communities in Houston accept dogs and cats. Many will accept up to two pets as long as they aren’t aggressive breeds. Some communities may have weight or size restrictions. All communities will charge a non-refundable pet fee to cover the cost of clearing out any signs of a pet once you move. Many will also charge an additional deposit to cover any pet related damages. Also common is the pet fee; a monthly fee for allowing your pet on the property.
What Appliances Are Included?
In Houston, Texas, all appliances are included just about everywhere. Every major apartment community provides refrigerator, dishwasher, range, oven, microwave, disposal, clothes washer and dryer. A few older communities might not offer the washer and dryer, but you can rent the set for about $35 monthly. For the really old apartment communities, an on-site laundry facility may be common.
What Are The Cable And Internet Providers?
Houston has two major providers of cable television and internet. These are Comcast and AT&T. Renters have their choice of provider at nearly every community in the city. Only a few of the very old communities are under contract with only one of these providers, or a smaller company.
I hope this saves you some time when you start shopping for your next home in Houston. Do you have more questions about what is and isn’t typical at a Houston apartment community? Ask in the comments below or contact me directly! 832-513-9931
