T.C. Jester Dog Park: Located at 4201 West T.C. Jester Boulevard, this 1.08-acre dog park leaves plenty of tails wagging! It’s fully fenced-in with separate areas for large and small dogs, so your canine pals can safely make friends their own sizes. Different sized dogs have different needs, which is why the large dog run is approximately 31,000-square feet, and the dog run for pint-sized pups comes in at roughly 16,000-square feet. It’s also important to note that this park features drinking fountains to help your pup cool off after a day of running around and playing fetch. In the Texas heat, features like this aren’t only conveniences – they can save lives. Open to the public since August of 2009, T.C. Jester Dog Park has become famous throughout Houston as one of the best dog parks to visit.

Johnny Steele Dog Park: If you’re a fan of Buffalo Bayou Park, you’re going to love it even more once you head over to Johnny Steele Dog Park on 2929 Allen Parkway. The two-acre dog park opened at the beginning of 2015 and was named after the famous Houston architect Johnny Steele. The highlights of this greenspace are seemingly endless! It features separate areas for large and small dogs, and each section has some pretty cool perks. Both dog runs feature a dog washing station, a pond, and plenty of shade structures so you and your dog can keep cool when you’re ready to take a break. Johnny Steele Dog Park is considered one of Houston’s biggest dog parks, and it’s incredibly popular, which is part of why visitors may only bring two dogs for one hour of playtime each trip. Although there’s some access to parking along the roadway, you may want to plan to wear some comfy shoes just in case you need to walk over to the park.

The Park for Humans and Dogs: At Old Sixth Ward, tucked away at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Sawyer Street, you’ll find the beloved Park for Humans and Dogs. This little-known greenspace is an amazing place to take your dog for a fun afternoon. It’s dedicated to keeping your pup safe with misters, showers, and dog fountains, and there’s a separate gravel area for dogs to do their business in, so you don’t have to feel icky about playing in the grass. Although dogs must be leashed if they’re not in the designated area for pets, it’s a great area to roam around in. Old Sixth Ward is known for its vibrant arts culture and popular restaurants, and historians love that the gazebo at the Park for Humans and Dogs features a 100-year-old cupola restored from a nearby Victorian home. One more thing to love: The area features some free parking nearby!
