The 5 Best Houston Neighborhoods for Millennials
5 Houston Neighborhoods That Millennials Love
Coming up with the 5 best Houston neighborhoods for Millennials didn’t take me very long! I’m a Millennial myself, born in 1982 (Yes, I played Oregon Trail!). I also tend to mostly work with Millennials who are looking to buy or sell their homes in Houston. Millennials are my people and Houston is my city—I know them both very well!
There are a ton of great neighborhoods for Millennials to buy a home or rent an apartment in Houston, but today we’re only going to be covering the best. To arrive at the top five, I’ve considered each neighborhood’s location within the city, affordability, amenities, walkability, and other factors—the same factors I considered when I bought my own home in Houston.
So, here they are: the 5 best Houston neighborhoods for Millennials!
1. Lindale Park
Lindale Park is a great neighborhood in Houston’s Near Northside with a lot of houses that are affordable for Millennials. It’s great for walking and biking! If you are concerned about a commute, though, Lindale Park has easy access to the METROrail as well as Interstate 45 and the 610 Loop, making the trip to Downtown Houston or the Texas Medical Center quick and easy. It’s also adjacent to the Heights, a haven for great shopping and restaurants. Millennials like myself love this neighborhood for its big, mature oak trees and its vast number of charming cottages and bungalows!

2. Sunset Heights
Sunset Heights is another charming neighborhood on the north side of Houston’s Inner Loop that attracts Millennials with its neighborly feel and affordable housing. Sunset Heights once again provides easy access to Interstate 45 and Loop 610 for commuters, but the neighborhood is also home to terrific bars and restaurants like Lei Low, Johnny’s Gold Brick, and Pinkerton’s Barbecue that draw people in from across the city. It’s also home to the Houston Farmers Market, a stunning oasis of fresh produce, meats, and other foods!
3. East Downtown
East Downtown, or EaDo, is the top place to live for Millennials looking for affordable housing with amazing local nightlife options. It’s directly adjacent to Downtown Houston, making most commutes a breeze, and the houses in this formerly industrial neighborhood are appreciating rapidly. Just as important for residents, though, is that EaDo is becoming a cultural hub stuffed with some of the coolest arts, music, bars, and restaurants in the city. For Millennials who want to mix it up in urban excitement 24/7, you can’t beat East Downtown!
4. Montrose
Historically, Montrose has been the capital of Houston’s alternative and LGBTQ cultures, offering a rich nightlife paired with charming, quiet neighborhoods. Today, it is also home to some of the city’s most exclusive apartment communities and top-tier restaurants, including James Beard-winning Chef Chris Shepherd’s Georgia James. Montrose is possible Houston’s most walkable neighborhood, with plenty of shopping, food, and bars. Millennials in Montrose can often be found waiting in line for incredible tacos from the Tacos Tierra Caliente trailer outside the historic West Alabama Ice House.
5. Timbergrove
Timbergrove is a great, affordable neighborhood in Houston for Millennials who love to spend time outdoors. Four terrific green-space parks dot the neighborhood, which is also adjacent to the trails at White Oak Bayou. While the shopping and dining options in Timbergrove aren’t the best Houston has to offer, it’s a very short drive to all of the top entertainment destinations in town. Best of all, homes are appreciating like crazy in this area as more and more Millennials move in!
