Best Parks in Houston – Part Two
Since Houston has so many fabulous parks, I couldn’t resist sharing more. They are beloved by locals and tourists alike. I hope you enjoy these parks as much as I do! Check out the best parks in Houston – part two.
- Spotts Park
Just west of downtown, Spotts Park lies on 16+ acres and is a popular destination for visitors of all ages.
What makes it special: Whether you are active or new to fitness, Spotts Park has something to offer. Basketball and volleyball players will enjoy the courts, and runners and casual strollers will love the walking trails. The children’s playground is also a wonderful place to take the kids to let off some energy!
- Buffalo Bayou Park
One of the greatest urban green spaces in Houston, Buffalo Bayou Park delivers a hefty amount of natural beauty in all its 160 acres.
What makes it special: In addition to attracting active Houstonians and those looking to enjoy a piece of nature in the city, Buffalo Bayou Park offers so much more, including Johnny Steele Dog Park, Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark, and great meals at the Kitchen at the Dunlavy. Visitors who fancy art might want to check out the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern, a decommissioned underground reservoir that now features art installations.
- Terry Hershey Park
Terry Hershey Park runs parallel to a 6-mile stretch of Buffalo Bayou and was named after Terry Hershey, a conservationist who fought to prevent the banks of Buffalo Bayou from being paved.
What makes it special: The park is popular among bicyclists, joggers, and other active visitors. It’s also a popular geocaching site!
- George Bush Park
George Bush Park is a nearly 8,000-acre county park located on the west side of the city. Unfortunately, since the entirety of the park is located within the Barker Reservoir, the park does routinely flood, leading to closures. During dry spells, though, George Bush Park is a pretty great place to spend time.
What makes it special: Like Terry Hershey Park, George Bush Park is a popular site for bicyclists and geocachers. It also features a soccer field, shooting range, baseball field, a dog park, and several pavilions, playgrounds, jogging trails, and ponds.
