Holiday Activities in Houston
The holiday season is a busy one, but there’s plenty to do in the area when it’s time to relax with family and friends. The next time you’re looking to be festive away from home, check out some of these favorite seasonal pastimes and local Holiday Activities in Houston.
This year, the Galveston Historical Foundation will present Dickens on the Strand for its 46th year from December 6 – 8. The annual festival is filled with family activities, live entertainment on four stages, parades, special events, and more. The Strand, based on 19th century London, is a treat for all who enjoy immersive atmospheres. Characters roam throughout the festival and costumed vendors peddle goods like Victorian-inspired crafts, decorations, holiday food and drink, gifts, and more. It’s a wonderful event for the entire family and a weekend worth remembering.
Ice skating at Discovery Green returns on November 15 through February 2. Enjoy the lights and holiday merriment of Downtown Houston as you glide across the ice. If you want to get a head start on ice skating this year, don’t miss out on their opening day celebration – the first 50 skaters will get free admission.
Another beloved annual Houston holiday event, Holiday on 19th Street promises live music, in-store features, tasty adult beverages, holiday shopping, and something many of us Texans long for: real snow. Break out your ugly Christmas sweaters on December 6 and relish in a joyous night of great food, drinks, roaming carolers, and holiday deals on historic 19th Street.
The Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market is so large that there is a Wells Fargo Preview Party with live entertainment. In fact, admission tickets to the market began selling in August! The market boasts over 260 merchants offering goods like home décor, food, apparel, gifts, toys, and more. Since proceeds from admission and merchandise sales benefit the Houston Ballet Foundation, the Nutcracker Market is a great place to get some holiday shopping done while giving back to the community. Since it only lasts from November 14 – 17, the window to enjoy this long-awaited event is small, so mark your calendars if you’d like to go.
If shopping isn’t your thing, you can always take in the Houston Ballet’s rendition of the Nutcracker from November 29 – December 29.
