When it comes to selling a home in Houston, timing matters. In order to get…
Houston Neighborhoods – Galleria
The Galleria area is just outside the 610 loop and the most affordable option near the city. To find rates better than these, you really need to go all the way to our suburbs. The Galleria area isn’t just affordable; many people work here or in the Energy Corridor. The neighborhood is pretty large including nearly anything bound by I-10 to the North, 59 to the South, Beltway 8 on the West and 610 on the East. As such, there is plenty of dining, entertainment and shopping. The Galleria Mall is one of the nation’s largest shopping complexes with luxury stores such as Tiffany & Co., St Laurent, Sax Fifth Avenue, La Perla and Chanel, and popular retailers like Abercrombie & Fitch, Express and others.
Walkability ★★★☆☆
Some areas are walkable whereas others aren’t quite as convenient. The closer you live to the mall, the more activities you will find within walking distance. There are also some great streets like Augusta Drive and Bering Drive that are filled with trees and great for an afternoon walk.
Transportation ★☆☆☆☆
The METROrail does not run through the Galleria area, but there are more than enough bus stations.
Dining ★★★★★
Many of Houston’s finer restaurants can be found outside the loop. Places for entertaining such as Morton’s Steakhouse, Del Frisco’s and The Palm. Fun spots for celebrating too like Benihana and Fogo de Chao. If you venture down Hilcroft or Fondren, you’re certain to find some of the best ethnic cuisine of your life. Houston has very strong Vietnamese, Indian and Middle Eastern communities; so, you’re guaranteed to find authentic and delicious food.
Nightlife ★★★★☆
There’s a hole-in-the-wall pub, such as Ron’s Pub or Nick’s Place around every corner and plenty of cocktail bar and lounge options, such as The West End near the mall. If you really want to have a great time and burn some calories, Houston’s most popular EDM venue, Stereo Live is located on the Richmond Strip. Not far down the road is a long standing country bar, Wild West where you can boot, scoot and boogie!
Pet Friendly ★★★★☆
With all the tree-lined streets and garden style communities, pets will be in paradise. Additionally, true to Houston development style, newer communities will have on-site dog parks and accept dogs of most shapes, sizes and breeds. There is one dog park on Bering Drive, but it isn’t very big. It’s certainly a convenient little place to let the pups loose, though. If you have more time, drive on out to Millie Bush Dog Park in the Energy Corridor for the real deal. This park is raved about by every Houstonian that has ever made the trip!
