It has always been known for its massive oak trees and uniformity. The Boulevard Oaks Civic Association was founded in 1980 to help manage the area, segments of which were listed under the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Just minutes from Rice Village, this neighborhood offers plenty of opportunities to shop nearby. Braes Heights Shopping Center, Highland Village Shopping Center, and the Galleria are also area favorites.

The neighborhood is often described as close-knit, cozy, and graceful. The Boulevard Oaks Civic Association manages the area to ensure that it maintains its historic beauty.
