Lazybrook is a deed-restricted neighborhood located west of the Heights. It borders areas like Shepherd Forest and Spring Branch East and is situated along White Oak Bayou.
Accessibility: With a low Walk Score® of 48, completing errands in this community requires the use of a car. This is especially true since there aren’t many bike lanes for residents to rely on. Six bus lines pass through the community, so public transportation may be an option.
Parks, Recreation, and Green Spaces: The area is loaded with public green spaces – great for anyone who enjoys spending a day at the park. White Oak Bayou borders the community, and fantastic parks like Jaycee Park, Little Thicket Park, and West 11th Street Park provide spaces to stretch your legs and enjoy nature. West 11th Street Park is especially beloved by birdwatchers because of the wide variety of woodpeckers that reside within the park, particularly the rare Red-Headed Woodpecker. Each year, millions of residents also visit Memorial Park to the south of the community for a variety of activities including jogging, biking, picnics, golfing, and more.
Commute: Since public transportation may not always get residents to where they need to be, it’s usually necessary to own a car when living in this neighborhood. Luckily, Interstate 610 and Route 290 run through it. Interstate 10 also travels south of the community, providing ample access to local highways.

History: This area was originally settled by German farmers in the 1800s and was the site of the 1930s oil discovery called “Eureka.” After World War II ended, the community remained largely wooded while development in other Houston neighborhoods exploded. Development finally reached Lazybrook in the 1950s. The area is named after the slow-moving White Oak Bayou that flows to the east of the community. In 2011, Lazybrook joined Timbergrove as a Super Neighborhood.
Shopping: Residents of this neighborhood often travel to nearby neighborhoods to do their shopping. To the east in the Heights, Merchants Park Shopping Center and historic 19th Street are just a couple favorite spots to shop.
Community: While other Houston neighborhoods contain of a variety of architectural styles, Lazybrook consists of mostly ranch-style homes. This lends the area a charming, uniform atmosphere beloved by those who live here. The area is also known for its many towering trees. The unique small-town feel of this neighborhood makes it very popular among homebuyers, especially those who spend a lot of time in the Inner Loop.
Culture: There are approximately 69 restaurants, bars, and coffeeshops located in the Lazybrook-Timbergrove Super Neighborhood. You can typically walk past one every five minutes or so depending on your route. There is also a flurry of restaurants to the south and to the east of the community, so there’s always a great place to visit to grab a bite to eat nearby.
