Meyerland is a small, 6,000-acre residential neighborhood located just outside the 610 Loop in Southwest Houston offering convenient access to freeways, the Galleria, and the Texas Medical Center.

Accessibility: The area has a Walk Score® of 56, meaning that some errands can be accomplished by foot here. The neighborhood also has some public transportation and bike infrastructure.

Parks, Recreation, and Green Spaces: Brays Bayou Greenway Trail located at the south end of the community provides hikers with a lovely green space as well as an excellent place to stretch their legs. Godwin Park is another local favorite greenspace; located nearby Kolter Elementary, it offers a playground, pavilion, and lighted sports area.

Commute: Since the community is located adjacent to the 610 Loop, it’s easy to access the highway. The area also has some bike infrastructure and public transportation options available, including at least 7 bus lines.

History: The subdivision was once rice fields owned by Robert F. Meyer Sr. After he passed away in 1933, the land was divided among his sons. Twenty years later, his son George developed it, fulfilling his dreams of developing the neighborhood.

Shopping: Meyerland Plaza provides residents and visitors with an excellent outdoor shopping center with stores like Marshall’s, Talbot’s, and Lane Bryant among its ranks.

Community: The neighborhood is known for its excellent schools and numerous dining and entertainment options. You will likely see ample ranch, contemporary, and colonial homes from the 1950s and 1960s in this area. However, it is not unusual to see new construction homes in this little community too.

Culture: Meyerland is home to the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center and several Jewish synagogues. For a 9-square mile neighborhood, it might surprise you to know that it is home to nearly 85 restaurants, bars, and coffee shops! It certainly is a lively community with plenty to do.
