Labor Day Getaways Around Houston

Are you planning on taking a relaxing trip for Labor Day weekend in the Houston area? If you’re not sure where to go, check out these great ideas.

1.) Galveston Island
For a lot of people, Labor Day represents the end of beach season. It’s a time to kick back, relax, and enjoy some time on the beautiful coast. Galveston Island offers miles of soothing sand and plenty more for those who’d prefer not to get their feet wet. Enjoy the fun rides at Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier, dine on delicious food from one of the local restaurants, catch a show at the Grand 1894 Opera House, or take in the area nightlife. The city also has many pretty houses to marvel at, including Victorian-style homes.

Because Galveston Island is such a popular vacation destination on Labor Day weekend, keep an eye out for special events! There are sure to be plenty this year.

2.) Brenham, TX
A small-town trip could be just what you need, and the fact that Brenham is home to Blue Bell Creameries ice cream is only one of the things that makes this spot so appealing. Check out its many boutiques, explore the town on a geocaching adventure, sample craft beers from local breweries, or make your way to one of the area wineries. This area is also lovingly called “the birthplace of Texas” due to its rich history, so there is plenty to learn about for the history lovers out there. It’s also only located just a couple hours outside Houston!

3.)  Victoria, TX
If you’re looking for outdoor activities on your weekend getaway, Victoria is an awesome place to go. Paddle down the Guadalupe River on a kayak, take a stroll through the Texas Zoo, or hike along a trail at the 660-acre Riverside Park. The area is also known for its abundant nightlife, including restaurants and live bands. You’ll definitely want to make sure your phone is charged up before you head out – the architecture in this town is breathtaking! Make sure you take a peek at the Victoria County Courthouse before you head back to Houston.

4.) Margaritaville
If you’re looking to nibble on sponge cake and boiled shrimp, why not do it at Margaritaville? Along the shores of Lake Conroe in Montgomery, the new Margaritaville Lake Resort Lake Conroe has over 350 guest rooms, a spa, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, and an awesome water park with an outdoor pool and a lazy river.
