Are you considering a move to the East End in Houston? That’s a smart move! The area is buzzing with potential, and the East River project is a huge part of that excitement. Lots of housing is going up there. Imagine having a sprawling 150-acre mixed-use development right in your backyard. That’s what East River is bringing to the table.
Moving to the East River Project in Houston
The East River Project is a massive, 150-acre mixed-use development project being built now along Buffalo Bayou, east of Downtown Houston. It’s transforming a former industrial site into a vibrant, walkable, and bike-friendly environment focused on green spaces, parks, and trails. The project is intended to be a new economic center, attracting residents, workers, and visitors of all ages—and it includes tons of brand-new housing!
This area of Houston will soon be like no other. Living in the East End near the East River Project means having a vibrant lifestyle right at your fingertips. Picture strolls along the waterfront promenade and picnics in lush green spaces, with a lively event plaza hosting music and markets. Enjoy a round of golf at East River Nine, or a nightly pickleball match for active fun. Dining options are plentiful, with options like Riverhouse Houston, City Cellars HTX, Jonathan’s The Rub, and upcoming spots offering Mexican street food, ramen, and soul food, plus a specialty coffee shop. Staying active is easy with on-site walking and biking paths connecting to the Bayou trails, potential access to a modernized wellness facility, and fitness studios like HOTWORX and East River Pilates nearby. The East River Project is truly creating a dynamic and engaging environment for East End residents to enjoy fun, leisure, diverse dining, and convenient fitness opportunities.
Enjoy All the Amenities of EaDo
Beyond the new project, the East End comes with the perks of being right next to EaDo, another vibrant area offering music and comedy, dining, and nightlife options for locals. Catch a Houston Dynamo or Dash soccer game at Shell Energy Stadium. Check out one of the many breweries, like 8th Wonder Brewery or True Anomaly. When it comes to dining, EaDo serves up everything from authentic Vietnamese cuisine at Huynh Restaurant to delicious Tex-Mex at El Tiempo Cantina. You’ll also find a variety of other eateries, including District 7 Grill for American fare and Gotti’s for Cajun and Creole flavors. One of my favorite spots is Cidercade, offering unlimited arcade game play for $20. Alternatively, you can relax and catch all the games at Little Woodrow’s EaDo or Pitch 25—or watch live comedy at the Secret Group! Basically, EaDo is great.
Easy Access to Downtown from the East End
But let’s not forget about the incredible convenience of having Downtown Houston right next door! Downtown boasts a wealth of leisure and entertainment options, from catching a Broadway show at the Hobby Center to cheering on the Houston Rockets or Astros. Dining in Downtown is a culinary adventure, with everything from upscale restaurants in the Theater District to casual eateries in Market Square Park. For nightlife, Downtown offers a sophisticated vibe with rooftop bars and lively lounges. Beyond the fun, Downtown is a major employment hub, making the commute for East End residents working there incredibly easy. Plus, the METRORail not only connects you to Downtown, but also Midtown, the Museum District, and the Texas Medical Center.
The East End area is also really affordable compared to other Houston neighborhoods, offering some of the best-priced housing options inside the 610 loop. If you want to be close to the city center, but need to save on housing costs, the East End may be your best bet. At the time of this writing, townhouses in the area are for sale as low as $295,000! Yes, you can get a 2-bedroom 2.5-bathroom townhouse with granite counters and wood floors for $295,000! That’s well below the market average in Houston for in-the-Loop living. There are also plenty of additional options between $300K and $400K.
Looking for a traditional house? No worries, there is a house for sale today for $275,000. You can get a 2-bedroom 2-bath house built in 2019 for under $300,000. There are also plenty of additional options under $400K. Looking for an apartment? I have you covered! There are multiple name-brand buildings in the area, with units starting at $1,425 for one-bedrooms and $2,100 for 2-bedrooms. There are also multiple more affordable housing options, too!
