The Hottest New Restaurants In and Near Downtown

If you spend any time in Downtown, First Ward, or the Theater District, you’re going to want to know about the hottest new restaurants that are opening. Whether you’re craving Italian, Mexican, Latin, or American cuisine, there’s something tasty waiting for you at these new locations.

Georgia James Tavern: Head on over to 737 Preston Street to order a drink or meal at this stylish eatery. Enjoy burgers, seafood, salads, cast-iron seared steaks, a variety of dishes cooked in a wood burning stove, and so much more. This restaurant even serves Sunday brunch! It’s also worth knowing that the bar has quickly become known for its extensive selection of whiskeys and wines. If you’re in search of a chic spot to grab a drink and bite to eat, check out Georgia James Tavern.

Ixím: At 409 Travis Street, you’ll find Ixím, a fun new Mexican restaurant that adds a unique contemporary flair to every dish. Enjoy shrimp, lamp and pork meatballs, pork belly, steak, chicken, and other delicious choices for lunch or dinner.

Common Bond Brasserie & Bakery: Stop by the Bank of America building at 800 Capital Street, Suite P1-01 to order coffee, pastries, and other goodies from the new Common Bond Brasserie & Bakery location. This popular bakery has locations all across the city, but this is the first one to offer full-course, full-service meals. The cafe next to the bakery serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and happy hour, and it has more diverse menus than what you might see at your typical fast-casual Common Bond location. However, you can still order some of your favorite Common Bond dishes!

Rosalie Italian Soul: Rosalie Italian Soul was one of the first Downtown restaurants to close during the pandemic, so it’s exciting to see them re-establish themselves at the C. Baldwin Hotel at 400 Dallas Street. The venue boasts a retro-chic atmosphere replete with old-fashioned TVs, walnut shelving, old records, and artwork reminiscent of the 70s. Diners love the restaurant’s authentic Italian family recipes which include dishes like blue crab manicotti, ravioli, pizza, snapper, ribeye, and more. If you stop by for brunch, try the Italian milk toast.

Toro Toro: The much-anticipated Toro Toro at the Four Seasons offers flavors inspired by Central and South America. The menu encourages sharing, which you may or may not want to do when it comes to tasty dishes like a 52oz prime tomahawk steak, Brazilian-style picanha steak, lamb chops, Spanish octopus, short rib tacos, or South Texas antelope. Check Toro Toro out at 1300 Lamar Street.
